The Crazy Thing About Life: He is With You
The Crazy Thing About Life: He is With You
Here's the section of scripture we're working with here:
When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked.
“Come and see, Lord,” they replied. Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?”. John 11:33-37
Basically what's happening here is that Lazarus has died (and we know what happens to him eventually... Jesus brings him right on back!) and Jesus finds her sister weeping, so distraught that her brother has died. And basically she implies to Jesus, "if you had been here, none of this would have happened." They were disappointed. And guess what, so was Jesus.
Look at verse 35, "Jesus wept." This is, actually, one of the shortest verses in the Bible. It's a verse all to itself. Was that the first Bible verse any one of you memorized? Thank you. Have a great day.
It says that Jesus wept.
Here's the thing, like He's weeping, and He's frustrated, and He's angry. He's got all these emotions going on and it's on the heels of the disappointment that people had in him and his arrival.
Jesus understands your disappointment.
I don't know if you've ever been so disappointed that you just can't get over something, but these people were disappointed in Jesus.
"If you had been here, he wouldn't be dead."
Jesus understands disappointment and he understands your disappointment and my disappointment. On top of that, I'm going to declare it to you, He does not enjoy your pain.
There's a picture of God... Some people paint this theological perspective of God, that He is just this God who sits up high. He's watching what's going on down here, and when you feel pain, He feels joy.
That is not the God we serve.
He is not waiting for you to be in pain. He is not excited about your pain. In fact, He understands your disappointment. He grieves with you in the middle of your pain and your loss.
So life has some crazy disappointments, but the crazy thing about life is what Jesus himself said about life. He said, "Even when you do what's right, it's not always going to go your way."
But here's what you need to hear: Have hope, hold on, and know that He is with you.
